My thoughts on MegaUpload

Let me start off by saying I am not for piracy, I am not for censorship. Do I think MegaUpload should have been shut down? Maybe. Only if they did nothing to stop the illegal uploads... but then again it's impossible to stop everything. Do I think the US Government should have shut the site down? Not at all. Why? Because the Government did not shut it down because of Piracy... they did it to show their power, SOPA. If SOPA would have passed MegaUpload would have been the example why SOPA was good, but since it did not pass they used MegaUpload as a way to show everyone that if they do manage to get SOPA to pass that they would use it to shut down Piracy not censor the web. Think about it, if they wanted to shut it down for piracy they would have done it long ago. MegaUpload was known for it's illegal upload and free download of copywritten stuff for years.

This is nothing more then a scare tactic, like the music industry tried to do. I remember back in the late 90's early 2000's when the music industry was suing people for illegally downloading songs. Why did they stop? Because it did not work. This is the same thing, this is the government using it's big stick to try to scare people into stop pirating. The problem is that it won't work... people will always pirate and will just get smarter on how they do it.

So what's next? I think the next target will be peer to peer file sharing sites and or torrent sites. They will start with the biggest ones and work their way down shutting them all down. Then if the people do nothing, SOPA will come back, maybe under a new name. And if we do nothing it will pass and the internet as we know it will be gone forever! Sites like google, facebook, twitter, so on and so on will be shut down to censor the people for "their own good". And that will start the dark age in the internet.

Rant on the Transformer Prime

I've been waiting a while now to get my transformer prime and I cannot help to wonder what Asus is thinking. I think the stunt that they have done is a great one but it does have some flaws. I think making the product have such media attention is great to get the word out and using a popular thing as Transformer was a great pick. And in the meantime having reviewers who got the Transformer Prime early, be the guinea pigs and point out the flaws then make the improvements, was also a great move. However, making people wait so long over a court battle in which they will lose is pointless... they have the hype, they made the improvements, why not just rename it and send it out now before things like iPad3 and other tablets come out with simular specs? I now am still debating if I will still wait for the Prime or get something else... like a Acer Inconia A500?

New Year, New Domain Host... Why I Left GoDaddy

Yesterday I transfered my domain http:\\www.carlbwade.us from GoDaddy to NameCheap. And so far I like the Change... There are three main reasons why I made the switch.
1. GoDaddy supports SOPA. I don't.

2. The CEO of GoDaddy went to Africa and killed Elephants. He claimed he did it to help the people of Zimbabwe ... but that's a total peice of ... He says that the Elephants are killing crops that will make the natives go hungry, even though it's the Government that is doing that not the Elephants.

3. It was cheaper to get my domain from Cheapname then to renew with GoDaddy. (7.99 vs 10.99)
So that's my reasons why I left GoDaddy and will never look back!
